The planned Club 16 events have been cancelled. The Fire Marshall has found some issues and will not let the venue host any further events until they have been addressed. I am very sorry for those of you who are disappointed by this turn of events. I can safely say that I and the other DJs that were scheduled share your disappointment.
So I've signed up for a 30-minute "acoustic lunch" set on campus, Wednesday December 2nd. It's totally unplugged so I can't even hide everything under layers of reverb like I do for youtube, or bring a drum machine to add some brittle syncopation here and there to mix things up and sustain (so far, entirely hypothetical) audience interest. We'll see, I guess.
Also, today is November 11th, which is not a patriotic occasion in my mind so much as a opportunity to reflect on the violence of our species and our continuing refusal to live up to the promises of sentience. War. I wish we were better than that, all of us.
Today, purely because it seemed like the thing to do at the time, I decided to walk home from work. About three and a half miles, much of it uphill. Google maps said it would take about an hour and a quarter. I scoffed at it. Scoffed! I walk faster than your average bear, y'know. (Or at least faster than your average walker.)
It took... almost exactly an hour and a quarter. Curse you, Google maps, for restoring my sense of mediocrity!
I'll console myself with the knowledge that it was uphill a lot of the way. Sure, we'll go with that. Whatever lets you sleep at night. *grin*
1. Don’t put drugs in people’s drinks in order to control their behavior.
2. When you see someone walking by themselves, leave them alone!
3. If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault them!
4. NEVER open an unlocked door or window uninvited.
5. If you are in an elevator and someone else gets in, DON’T ASSAULT THEM!
6. Remember, people go to laundry to do their laundry, do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.
7. USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If you are not able to stop yourself from assaulting people, ask a friend to stay with you while you are in public.
8. Always be honest with people! Don’t pretend to be a caring friend in order to gain the trust of someone you want to assault. Consider telling them you plan to assault them. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the other person may take that as a sign that you do not plan to rape them.
9. Don’t forget: you can’t have sex with someone unless they are awake!
10. Carry a whistle! If you are worried you might assault someone “on accident” you can hand it to the person you are with, so they can blow it if you do.
And, ALWAYS REMEMBER: if you didn’t ask permission and then respect the answer the first time, you are committing a crime- no matter how “into it” others appear to be.
I'm going to be showing some of my artwork at Kokkinos in NDG at 5673 Sherbrooke West, Montreal from November 13 through the 30th. I hope that you'll be able to come by and check it out.
I'll be there this Friday, Nov 13, from 8pm to 10pm, if you'd like to come by while I'm around.
Alternatively our house is only a 5 minute walk away, so if you are planning on coming by some other time, let me know, and if I'm free I'll wander by with you.
